Upload a Redacted Statement Instead of Connecting Your Bank

確認済み 2026-10-24

You do not have to connect your bank account to get help reading it. Download a statement, cross out the private numbers, upload the cleaned copy, and a muse will sort the spending, point out repeat charges, and list the subscriptions hiding in it.

What it does

Reading a file is very different from letting a muse into your bank. A file cannot move money, send an email, or sign in anywhere. You hand over one month on paper, and nothing else. The muse reads every line, groups the spending (groceries, bills, eating out), and totals each group. It points out what people miss: a charge that appears twice, a subscription that quietly went up in price, a renewal for a service you stopped using.

How to use it

  1. Sign in to your bank the normal way and download one monthly statement as a file.
  2. Open the file and remove the private parts first: the account number, the full card number, and your home address. Keep the dates, the names of the charges, and the amounts, because those are what the muse needs.
  3. Save the cleaned version as a new file, then upload that file to your muse.
  4. Ask for specific things: "List every charge that repeats each month, with the amount. Point out any charge that appears twice and any price that went up."
  5. Check the findings against your original statement, line by line, before you act on any of them.
  6. When you are done, delete the uploaded file and tell the muse to forget the figures if you do not want them kept.

What you need

  • One monthly bank or card statement, downloaded as a file
  • A few minutes to clean the private numbers out of your copy
  • A muse account. No bank connection is needed for this

What to watch for

  • Covering a number has to be done properly. In some apps, a black box drawn over text only hides it on screen, and the words underneath can still be read. Use the app's remove or flatten option, save a fresh copy, then open it and check the numbers are truly gone.
  • A muse can misread a blurry scanned page, so check its totals against the statement before you trust them.
  • One statement shows one month, so a single odd charge may be normal; two or three months give a clearer picture.
  • Cancelling or disputing a charge is still a separate step, and it stays in your hands.
