Unsubscribe From Mailing Lists in Gmail Through Your Muse
You can connect Gmail to your muse and have it unsubscribe you from mailing lists in batches of up to twenty messages at a time, with the senders named on an approval card before anything is sent.
What it does
Most unsubscribe links mean opening the message, hunting for small print, and landing on a page you do not trust. Connected, your muse can do the formal step for you. It works only on mail that supports one-click unsubscribe, a standard where the sender builds a quiet unsubscribe request into the message itself and Gmail can check that the message really came from that sender. You choose the messages, up to twenty at a time, and the approval card lists the senders before anything happens. The result names any message the standard does not cover, so you know which lists still need the link inside the email itself. What the muse can honestly report is that each sender's system accepted the request. Whether that sender then stops mailing is the sender's side of the bargain.
How to use it
- Open the muse app and go to Settings, then Connectors.
- Select Connect next to Gmail, sign in with the Google account that gets the mail, and read the permission screen.
- Find the lists you are done with. Search by sender, or ask for promotional mail grouped by sender.
- Pick the messages yourself, up to twenty, and keep anything you still read off the list.
- Read the approval card. It names the senders, and approving sends the request for those senders only.
- Note any messages reported as unsupported, and use the link inside those emails yourself if you still want out.
What you need
- A muse account, with access in the US, Canada, Japan, or Singapore
- A Gmail account connected to your muse
- The messages you want to leave, picked by you
What to watch for
- Mail without the one-click standard cannot be handled this way. A message reported as unsupported is a limit of that sender's mail, not a failure.
- An accepted request is not a confirmed stop. Give it a few days, and judge it by whether the mail actually ends.
- Never let a cleanup touch lists you still value, such as bank alerts or a newsletter you read. Pick senders one by one instead of clearing a whole category.
- If a request fails, the muse does not retry it on its own or fall back to opening links for you. You pick the senders and approve the card.
