Sell a Digital File Through Your Shopify Store by Chat

Verified 2026-10-27

If you sell a file or a link, such as a knitting pattern, a guide, or a worksheet, you can set it up in your Shopify store from a chat with your muse, and the store delivers it to each buyer by email.

What it does

A digital product has no box to ship, but setting one up still means a row of admin screens. Through the Shopify connector, the muse creates the product, attaches your file or link, and turns on automatic delivery. When a customer buys it, they are emailed a link to download the file or open the linked content. You name the price, or say the item is free, and the muse builds the listing around it. The product starts as a draft. Nothing is on sale until you tell the connector to publish it, and you can open it in your admin anytime to check the wording, price, and attached file.

How to use it

  1. Connect your Shopify store to your muse first, and approve write access for the store.
  2. Ask the muse to sell your file and name the price: "Sell my knitting pattern PDF on my Shopify store for 12 dollars."
  3. If the Digital Products app is not on your store yet, the muse gives you an install link. Install it in your admin, then tell the muse to continue.
  4. For a file, follow the product link the muse gives you and add your file there, then tell the muse to continue. For a link, just give the muse the web address.
  5. Open the draft in your admin, check title, price, and file, then ask the muse to publish it.

What you need

  • A muse account
  • A Shopify store connected to your muse, with write access approved
  • The Digital Products app on your store, which the setup flow offers to install
  • A file you have the right to sell, or a link you control

What to watch for

  • Buy your own product once and confirm the delivery email arrives and the download opens. Automatic delivery is the whole point, so prove it works before real buyers depend on it.
  • Check that the attached file is the final version. An early draft sent by mistake goes to every buyer until you replace it.
  • The muse can create the product, but refunds, returns, and order changes still happen in your store admin.
  • Keep your own copy of the file outside the store. The store copy is for buyers, not your only backup.
