Search a Dealer's Live Inventory Through Its Own Tool

Verified 2026-10-24

When a car dealer offers a direct tool connection for agents, a muse can search that dealer's actual live inventory, pull the specific vehicles that match your needs, and submit your details as a lead, without browsing listing pages one by one.

What it does

Most car shopping with a muse means reading web listings. A direct tool connection is different. The dealer exposes its own inventory system in a form an agent can query: vehicle details, what is on the lot now, and a way to send a lead. A muse given access to such a tool can work out what it can do, search the real inventory against your brief, pull the specific cars, and submit your details as a lead on the one you pick.

How to use it

  1. Ask the dealer, or check its site, whether it offers an agent or tool connection for its inventory. If it does, connect it to your muse and read what the connection says it can do before you allow anything.
  2. Give a tight brief: model, year range, must have features, budget ceiling, and how far you will travel.
  3. Ask for the matching vehicles first, as a short list with prices, before any details are sent anywhere.
  4. Read the list. Cross out anything that does not fit. Only then say which car you want the dealer to hear about.
  5. Approve the exact lead details before they are submitted: your name, contact method, and the vehicle you picked. Nothing else should ride along.

What you need

  • A muse account
  • A dealer that offers a direct inventory tool connection an agent can use
  • A clear brief and a few minutes to approve the lead before it sends

What to watch for

  • Most dealers do not offer this yet. When no tool exists, the muse falls back to reading listings on the web, which is slower and can go stale. Ask which route it is using.
  • Live inventory can still be wrong. A car listed as available may have sold that morning. Confirm the car is on the lot before you drive over.
  • A submitted lead is a real sales contact. Expect a callback, and do not approve the lead until you are ready for one.
  • The muse prepares and submits, you decide. It should never agree to a price, a deposit, or a test drive time without your word.
