Run a Hundred Flight Searches When Your Dates and Cities Are Flexible
When a trip is flexible, the cheapest route hides in combinations no person has the patience to check one by one. A muse can run that whole grid for you: many departure dates, many arrival and return cities, priced in both cash and points, then ranked in one short list.
What it does
A normal flight search checks one route on one date. A flexible trip has dozens of versions: fly into any of several cities in one country, come home from any of several in another, leave on any of a week of dates. That grid can run to well over a hundred cash and award searches across many cities and a range of dates to find the lowest round trip. It kept the cash price and the points price side by side for each option, so the winner was clear in money, in points, and in travel time. You read a short ranked list instead of opening a hundred tabs.
How to use it
- Give the shape of the trip, not one fixed route: your home airport, the countries or regions you want, every city you would happily start or end in, and the full range of dates you can travel.
- Set your limits in plain words: top cash price, top points cost, no overnight layovers, no more than one stop.
- Ask for both prices on every option: "Price each combination in cash and in points, and rank the best ten by total cost, then by travel time."
- Pick from the short list, then ask the muse to hold or book that exact option, and check the confirmation against the list before you call it done.
What you need
- A Muse account
- Your real flexibility, written down: cities, dates, and the limits you will not cross
- Your points balances, if you want award prices compared honestly
What to watch for
- Flexibility you do not actually have wastes the search. If one date is impossible, take it out before the muse starts.
- The cheapest grid winner can involve a train or a drive between the arrival and departure cities. Price that ground leg before you book the flights around it.
- Award space changes fast. A points price found this morning may be gone tonight, so move on a good one or ask the muse to check again right before booking.
- Prices in the list are search results, not tickets. Nothing is yours until a booking is confirmed.
