Let Muse Work in Your Mac Apps and Files

Verified 2026-10-25

On a Mac, the Muse app can find, organize, and manage the files you point it at, and read information from apps such as Messages, Notes, Reminders, Mail, and Calendar, with a separate access choice for each app.

What it does

This is help inside your own computer, not just in a browser. You can ask it to pull last month's three invoices into one folder, or to summarize your messages from the week. For every app, you choose one of three settings: Off, Read only, or Read and interact. Read only means the muse can look and report back but change nothing. Read and interact lets it act, for example by filing, sorting, or drafting inside that app. Files the muse deletes go to the Trash, so you can restore anything it removed by mistake. Each app is set on its own, so you can allow Calendar and Notes while keeping Mail fully off.

How to use it

  1. Install the Muse app on your Mac and sign in with your Meta account.
  2. Open the app settings and go through the app list one app at a time.
  3. For each app, choose Off, Read only, or Read and interact. Start with Read only for anything you are unsure about.
  4. Give a small first job with a clear edge, such as: pull last month's invoices into one folder called Invoices, and change nothing else.
  5. Check the folder and the result yourself before giving a bigger job.
  6. Widen access only for the apps where the help has proved useful, and tighten it back whenever you want.

What you need

  • A Mac with the Muse app installed
  • A muse account signed in on that Mac
  • A few minutes to set the access level for each app before the first job

What to watch for

  • Read and interact is real access to that app. Give it only where you want the muse to make changes, not just look.
  • It is normal if an agent working in your own files sounds strange. The per-app settings and the Trash are your controls, and Off is always an option.
  • Start with folders and summaries. Jobs with a clear list and a clear end are the ones that go best, and they show you how the muse handles your files before you trust it with more.
  • Check moved files once after an early job. The muse organizes, you decide whether the system it chose is the one you want to keep.
