Hand the Muse the Long, Boring Web Trawl
Some jobs are just hours of looking things up one page at a time. A muse can take the whole job off your hands: give it clear criteria, let it work through the web for hours, and then review what it found with a simple approve or reject.
What it does
A muse can run long web research jobs that no human wants to sit through. You describe exactly what you are looking for, for example every professionally recorded concert video from a specific festival, every archival photo from your hometown's history, or every listing of a rare item with certain details. The muse searches across the web, opens page after page, and collects the matches in a list for you to review. It is normal if that sounds strange the first time you try it. You can stop it at any point, and you make the final call on everything it finds.
How to use it
- Write down exactly what counts as a match. Be specific: which sites to check, what details each result must have, and what to skip.
- Tell the muse your criteria in plain words, plus how you want the results listed, such as a numbered list with a link and a short note on each.
- Let it run. Long jobs can take hours. Check back on its progress and answer any questions it raises.
- Review the list it produces and approve or reject each item. The muse prepares, you decide.
What you need
A Muse account with enough usage to cover a long job. Clear written criteria; the more specific you are, the better the results.
What to watch for
Long jobs can freeze in the middle. If one stalls, restart it with a smaller chunk of work. Some websites block automated browsing, so the muse may not reach every page you name. Vague instructions get vague results: if the list comes back messy, tighten your criteria and run it again. The review step is not optional; check every item before you use it.
