Find the Product You Can Only Describe From Memory

確認済み 2026-10-25

Everyone has one: a thing you owned, used, or saw years ago, loved, and cannot name. Normal search fails because search needs the name. A muse can work from the description alone, trying the words a seller or a catalog might have used instead, until a photo on screen matches the one in your head.

What it does

You describe the product the way you remember it: what it did, its shape, size, color, and material, where you used it, and roughly when. The muse turns that memory into many different searches, changing the wording each time, because the listing for the thing rarely uses the words you would. It reads product pages and old catalogs, sets aside the near misses, and brings back a short set of photo candidates. You point at the right one. A product with no brand name at all can be found this way even when ordinary search never surfaced it. Once it has a name, the rest is normal shopping: price, seller, and whether it is still made.

How to use it

  1. Write down everything you remember, even the odd details: what it did, how it looked, what it was made of, where in the house it lived, and the years you had it.
  2. Hand the muse the whole description and say: "I do not know the name. Search by description, try different wordings, and bring back photo candidates, not links alone."
  3. Judge the photos, not the titles. Say which details are right and which are wrong, and let the muse narrow the search with that.
  4. When the match lands, ask for the name, who sells it now, and whether a newer version replaced it.

What you need

  • A Muse account
  • Your best memory of the product, written in plain detail
  • A few minutes to judge photo candidates and correct the search

What to watch for

  • Memory edits details. If the search keeps missing, question the detail you are most sure of, such as the color or the material. That one is wrong more often than people expect.
  • A look-alike is not the product. Check the candidate against every detail you gave, especially size and how it worked.
  • Some products are gone for good. A match may lead to secondhand listings only, so check condition and returns before paying.
  • The muse finds candidates. Your eyes make the call, because only you carry the picture it has to match.
