Find and Read Your Google Drive Files Through Your Muse

You can connect Google Drive to your muse so it searches your files and folders by what is inside them, reads PDFs and documents, and tells you which version is the latest.

What it does

Files pile up under names that made sense at the time. Connected, the muse searches the Drive account you sign in with, by name and by meaning. Describe what you remember: the client, the month, or a number that was in it, and it comes back with the exact file name, the folder it sits in, and the date it was last changed. Ask it to read a PDF and pull out the numbers, dates, and terms that matter, with the page each figure came from so you can check it fast. Ask it to read two versions of the same document and list what was added, removed, or reworded. It can also list which files in a folder are shared and who can see them.

How to use it

1. Open the muse app and go to Settings, then Connectors.
2. Select Connect next to Google Drive, sign in with the Google account that owns the files, and read the permission screen before you approve it.
3. Set approvals so moving, sharing, or deleting a file always waits for you.
4. Test with one find: ask for a file you know well and check the name, folder, and date against Drive.
5. Ask for a PDF read next, and check the figures that matter most against the original page.
6. Keep the first week to searching and reading only. Approve any move or share one at a time after that.

What you need

• A muse account, with access in the US, Canada, Japan, or Singapore
• A Google account with the files you work with in Drive
• Approvals set to ask you before anything changes

What to watch for

• This is a finding and reading connection, not a writing one. Work on the words inside a document belongs in the document itself.
• Similar names are the main trap. A file called final and a file called final v2 are different files, and only one may be the signed one. Ask for dates and open the file before you quote from it.
• Files on your computer that were never uploaded, and files in another account, stay invisible.
• A summary can miss a clause and a figure can come from the wrong table. Check anything that touches money or a promise against the original file.
