Find a Specialist for a Custom Job

Verified 2026-10-23

When the person you need for a custom job does not advertise in the usual places, a muse can search beyond the big directories, find a specialist who still takes small jobs, contact them, agree the details, and send them your files.

What it does

Some work needs one particular pair of hands: a small batch of embroidery, a repair only one trade still does well, a maker who takes one-off commissions. Those people are often hard to find. They may have no shop page, no ads, and no listing on the platforms you would check first. A muse can work through trade listings, old business pages, and local groups, then put the pieces together into a short list of real candidates. Once it finds the right person, it can open the conversation by email, work through the details with them, and send the files the job needs, with your approval at each step.

How to use it

  1. Describe the job in plain words: what you want made or done, how many, the size, and when you need it.
  2. Say what counts as a good match: the craft, the area they can cover, and whether they must take small orders.
  3. Ask the muse to search beyond the first results page and show you each candidate with the reason it thinks the person fits.
  4. Pick the person yourself, then tell the muse what it may offer: the price range, the deadline, and what it may not promise.
  5. Read the draft message before it goes out, and check the reply when it lands. You approve the final agreement and the payment.

What you need

  • A clear description of the job and any files the specialist will need
  • A price range and a deadline you have decided in advance
  • An email account the muse can send from, with approvals on

What to watch for

  • A person who is hard to find may also be slow to reply, or may have stopped taking work since their page was written. Treat silence as a no and move to the next candidate.
  • Check the first reply with care. The muse can open the conversation, but you should confirm the price, the timing, and what you will receive before any money moves.
  • Send only the files the job needs. Designs and documents you share with a stranger stay shared.
  • If the muse cannot show you where it found a candidate, do not contact that person. A real specialist leaves a trail you can check yourself.
