Compare Grocery Prices by Unit Price Across Stores

The same weekly shop can cost a different amount at each store, and the bigger pack is not always the cheaper one per ounce or per item. A muse can compare your full list across the grocery stores you use, by unit price, and tell you which store wins for the whole basket and which single items are worth buying elsewhere.

What it does

Send the muse your normal shopping list, with pack sizes where they matter. It checks the current price of each item at each store you name and works out the unit price, so a large box and a small box can be compared fairly. Then it totals the basket store by store. The result shows the cheapest store for the full shop, the size of the gap, and the few items where the other store is cheaper by enough to matter. It is a comparison, not an order: nothing is bought until you say so.

How to use it

1. Write your regular list once: the items you buy most weeks, with brands or sizes where you care.
2. Name the stores to compare, two or three is enough, and the ones you can actually get to.
3. Ask: "Price this list at each store by unit price. Tell me the total for the full basket at each store, and list any item that is much cheaper at one store than the others."
4. Read the basket totals first. Chasing one cheap item across town rarely pays once time and fuel count.
5. When prices change, ask for the same comparison again with the same list, so the results line up with the last run.

What you need

• Your regular shopping list, with sizes for the items you buy in packs
• The stores you want compared, with accounts or logins where a store hides prices behind them
• A note on swaps you will not accept, such as store brand for a named brand

What to watch for

Prices move every week, and a special offer can flip the winner for one run. Treat the result as true for this week, not as a permanent ranking. Some store sites block agents or hide prices until sign in, and the muse should tell you which store it could not check instead of filling the gap with a guess. Unit price can also mislead on fresh food, where a cheaper large pack that goes off before you use it costs more in the end. The muse runs the numbers; you decide where the weekly shop happens.
