Check Your Muse Settings Before You Connect Anything Else

Verified 2026-10-20

Before a muse can do much for you, it asks to connect to your email, calendar, and other accounts. Ten minutes in the settings, before you connect anything new, lets you see what it can reach, when it must ask you first, and how much of your allowance you have used.

What it does

The settings hold the controls that decide how your muse behaves day to day. There is a list of connected services, so you can see every account it can reach in one place and remove any you no longer use. There are permission defaults that decide which actions it may take on its own and which ones stop for your approval. In practice, that approval step is real: when the muse is about to send an email, it shows exactly what it would send and waits, with choices to allow it once, always allow it for that recipient, or deny it. Settings also hold a switch for whether your conversations may be used to improve the AI models, which can be on without you ever choosing it, and a usage view showing the share of your weekly allowance used and its reset date.

How to use it

  1. Open settings and read the connected services list first. Remove anything you do not recognize or no longer want connected.
  2. Find the permission defaults and set them so sending, buying, and changing things always ask you first.
  3. Find the switch about using your conversations to improve the models, and set it the way you actually want it.
  4. Check your usage and reset date, so you know how much room is left this week.
  5. Repeat the check after big updates and whenever you connect a new service.

What you need

  • A muse account
  • Ten quiet minutes

What to watch for

  • Defaults are starting points, not choices you made, so read them as if a stranger set them.
  • Be careful with any always-allow choice: allowing one recipient forever is handy for family and risky for anyone else, and it stays in place until you change it.
  • A long connected services list is not better. Every connection is another door, so keep only the ones your real tasks use.
  • If having an agent connected to your accounts feels like a lot, that is normal. The controls are the point: you can review what it remembers, edit it, disconnect a service, or wipe things entirely, at any time. The muse prepares and acts within the lines, you draw the lines.
